of the MatriCulture School

Welcome to the Feminine Wisdom MatriCulture School in Narni and to her courses spread around the world.  We have started  the School by facilitating a new form of Ecovillage Design Education, SHE-EDE, first in an Eco-Hostel in Magliano Sabina, (2023), then in Narni (2024), continuing in Covao do Feto, Portugal  (2025) and for the near future  organizing a course in Colombia in the Matriarchal Community of Nashira, (November 2025). We are itinerant and located in Italy, Narni. We act holistically so we have many projects in mind and you, your dreams and your organization could be one of them in the near future.

My name is

Sabina Santovetti

My secret wish has always been to create, on the hills of Tuscany or Umbria, a sustainable alma mater convent. A new possibilities’ space, a life self-sustained contemporary convent, alive, different, resilient, vibrant, self-sufficient, in regenerative culture mode. I look at Schumacher College, at the Work that Reconnects or at this Akademie on Women’s Studies, and I perceive the same energy of my dream. Studies need to enrich reality and change it.

Founding Mother of the Modern Matriarchal Studies - Hagia Akademie

Understanding the deep structure of matriarchal societies could illuminate the fact that this extraordinary form of society still exists on every continent, and has a long and worldwide history –much longer than the patriarchal form of society…These multiple intersections demonstrate the various ways that modern Matriarchal Studies can be used. They form a critical and liberating research process with a respectful, healing and educational potential. And they are in a position to empower feminist women and alternative men in western societies, as well as indigenous peoples on every continent, to engage fully in effective political alliances against local andglobal patriarchal networks.

Matriarchal Studies

The discovery of this Matriarchal knowledge came through Schumacher College’s studies, which came through my spiritual ecological studies that I started while in Extinction Rebellion movement and the Work that Reconnects Network. In the last five years, my commitment to volunteer climate and ecological activism put my profession on the side, transforming and refining my inner journey. The exercise of writing my Eco-sophy in the first module of Schumacher Wild - College deepened the quest.

Slowly but surely I found myself investigating the Energy of Mother Earth, the Great Goddess in history and religion, Witchcraft in Spirituality and honoring the Pain of Witches‘ hunts in history. I found myself in the Great Feminine of different Cultures as mythology, art and healing. I discovered the outstanding and innovative genial studies of Marija Gimbutas on prehistoric matrilineal societies.

"The course was in my opinion very successful in reaching its learning objectives, the participants gained a clear understanding as well as a practical experience of the 4 dimensions and the tools and theory within each dimension. I deducted 5% because of the density of the course, which makes it a challenge for participants to take in everything that is offered during each session. I learned the importance of finding the right balance between practical embodied work within the dimensions and theoretical input sessions. In this course, different as in a previous EDE I have been a part of, there was much more time spent ‘in the field’, giving participants the opportunity to connect the theory with real time examples and people. We visited and helped at different local farms and received workshops from experts in the field of sustainability and social change in Italy. I think this is a huge value to this 30 day EDE course."
