what we do

Mission

We are all women activists engaged in changing the patriarchal capitalist model by using education as our weapon of change. We are a group of experienced facilitatresses in Matriarchal, Feminist, Ecological, Architectural, Social and Spiritual Studies. We teach the knowledge and skills that we need as Women to design truly Regenerative Matriarchal Communities, which thrive within planetary boundaries, empowering each other as a collective for the New Story of The Great Turning to happen.

We create embodied women’s think-tank that designs better communities with their empowerment as a collective, egalitarian, peaceful unified collective force of change. A space for embodied research and transmission of women’s culture and soul. A place of interchange with the local community in order to create a more mother-caring society. This process of women’s introspection, sharing and healing in a safe, delicate space, we hope will engender, once back in the everyday life of their community, a sacred social empowerment in order to facilitate inclusion of every gender, race, nationality with no blame or shame. The project programs revolves around Matriarchal Societies’ wisdom, Life and Nature Cycles, the sacredness of Mother Earth Dimensions, Maternal Gift Economy and the Spiral Work of The Work that Reconnects. Combined with the Dimensions of the Ecovillage Design Education Program: Cultural/Spiritual, Ecological, Economic and Social, it clarifies that the systemic holistic ecological vision we are following in our programs is the same one followed by many Indigenous Cultures of which many are matriarchal ones. In this Meta frame, women should become aware of their powers and their history in order to create within themselves, as a group and in society a new wisdom in compassion – as maiden, mothers and crones, in service to climate emergencies. The New Story we want for all.

We wish to raise awareness and create a new consciousness, by offering a systemic approach unifying thought, feeling, spirituality and action to address the world’s problems. We embrace a holistic worldview, seeing ourselves as part of Nature and Mother Earth in her bio-complexity, challenging the individualist narrative of western culture. Developing a worldview integrating humans and Nature is a crucial aspect for meeting ecological emergencies.

By offering a space of healing, learning and connecting, introducing knowledge and skills, as well as creating consciousness, we wish to empower women to contribute to the co-creation of an alive, ecological, egalitarian, and peaceful society on Earth, a matriarchal one.

By bringing together experience in ecovillage design, matriarchal societies, feminine wisdom, activism, community building and healing circles, we design new formats of education – responding to the worldwide need of mutual maternal values support and empowerment.

OUR PATH

VISION

We VISION a Matriarchal Future starting our transition by creating “Islands of Sanity” around the world!

Our educational philosophy is inspired by profound sources such as Spiritual Eco-Feminism, Modern Matriarchal Studies at Academy HAGIA, the Maternal Gift Economy Movement, Schumacher College, Gaia Education, the Global Ecovillage Network, the Transition Town Movement, and The Work That Reconnects.

The Modern Phenomenon of Ecovillages and Environmental Movements and the  Acknowledgement of Modern Matriarchal Studies. History and Values, Past and Present. Two Faces of the Same Coin to Save the Planet. by Sabina Santovetti

Our vision has a strong relationship with reality and we use it as a guideline for daily and future actions.

The Matriacha Manifesta and the principles of the VISION STATEMENT for a SUSTAINABLE EARTH by Global Ecovillage Network are some of our guidelines.

We want to:

 1. TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT HER-STORY

From patriarchal lies to matriarchal Her-story. Six thousand years of He-Story we demand that in education, Academia, the press the truth is told. Matriarchy is not the reverse of patriarchy.

TELL THE TRUTH 1 Modern matriarchal studies bring to light a body of knowledge of non-patriarchal, egalitarian societies that we urgently need to consider in this globally destructive phase of patriarchy that is bringing humanity and all life on earth to extinction. Today it is of immense importance this knowledge for the future of matriarchal patterns.

TELL THE TRUTH 2 Matriarchies are not utopian. They have been present during the human history and they are lived-in practical undertakings that belong to the indispensable knowledge of humanity to make this essential change in paradigm. Detailed concrete ways of organizing in accordance to people’s needs, non-violent and peaceful.

TELL THE TRUTH 3 Matriarchies organizing principles are not naïve or simplistically “natural”, they represent a conscious cultural creation designed by women (Her-story past and present)

TELL THE TRUTH 4 VIOLENCE TO WOMEN, CHILDREN IS UNKNOWN IN MATRIARCHAL PAST AND PRESENT CUTURES

2. CHANGE THE CULTURAL MODEL FROM PATRIARCHY TO MATRIARCHY

“the radically different cultural model of matriarchy, as a mother-centered, consensus-based, egalitarian society which will have great significance for the future of women and mothers, and for humankind in general.” Heide Goettner-Abendroth

AT CULTURAL LEVEL

CHANGE THE MODEL 1 Women are the mainstays of these structures.

CHANGE THE MODEL 2 Mother is the primordial model on which society looks at for behaviors.

CHANGE THE MODEL 3 VIOLENCE TO WOMEN, CHILDREN AND anyone else IS FORBIDDEN.

CHANGE THE MODEL 4 Matriarchies as sacred societies as cultures of the Goddess or Divine Feminine.

CHANGE THE MODEL 5 Re-learn how to see the world as one, holy to love and protect it. Everything is divine.

CHANGE THE MODEL 6 There is no separation between sacred and secular, everyday tasks have at the same time ritual significance. Art is in everything and everyone is an artist because life is the artwork.

CHANGE THE MODEL7 Motherhood and Maternal values such as care-taking,nurturing, otherliness, mutual support, peace building by negotition are at the center of the cultural model.

AT ECONOMIC LEVEL

CHANGE THE MODEL 1 Local and regional self-reliance agricultural subsistence economy. Land and property belongs to the clan. Distribution of goods rather than accumulation. Balanced reciprocity.

CHANGE THE MODEL 2 Local and Regional units are the core of which is founded a society Maternal Gift Economy.

CHANGE THE MODEL 3 The Practice of Self-sufficiency and quality of life. Production relies on only what is needed.

AT SOCIAL LEVEL

CHANGE THE MODEL 1 Non- hierarchical, horizontal societies of matrilineal kinship Matrilineal / Motherline: Living in large kinships groups / Matri-clan (minimum 3 generations-  10 to 100 individuals) Matrilocality: the women live there permanently. Visiting marriages. A society without hierarchies.

CHANGE THE MODEL 1 Matri-Clans created and led by women respect women’s needs and are the decisive factor for a new society: needs of children is vital for the future of humanity.

CHANGE THE MODEL 2 Men are totally respected and integrated but to do so they practice a different set of values based on mutual care and love.

AT POLITICAL LEVEL

CHANGE THE MODEL 1 Process of decision-making is organized along kinship lines. It starts in the clan-house; it is also in the village and at regional level through a consensus process, which means the process continues until it reaches unanimity.

CHANGE THE MODEL 2 We practice consensus, of utmost importance for a truly egalitarian society. Matters are decided upon by women and men in the clan house.

CHANGE THE MODEL 3 We create NEW AFFINITY COMMUNITIES formed based on a spiritual-philosophical relationship between the members - matri-clans. Their members are “siblings by choice” and create a “symbolic clan”. The small clan units of these symbolic matri-clans are the true decision makers bringing balance between the genders.

CHANGE THE MODEL 4 According to the subsistence perspective, flourishing, self-sufficient clans, villages and regions are the political goal – not the big nation sates reducing individuals to “human resources”.

CHANGE THE MODEL 5 NO ARMIES NO WARS. They have maintained themselves without war games, organized killing.

CHANGE THE MODEL 6 DIFFERENT WAY OF RULING: NO HIERARCHIES NO DOMINATION Matriarchies existing and past ones are not societies where women rule but humans communities that have managed to stay in existence over millennia without hierarchies and without domination.

AT SPIRITUAL LEVEL

CHANGE THE MODEL 1 Matriarchal societies do not have religions based on God, who is invisible, untouchable, and incomprehensible, but omnipotent and in contrast to whom the world is devalued as “dead Matter”.

CHANGE THE MODEL 2 Divinity is immanent, for the whole world is regarded as divine- as feminine divine.

CHANGE THE MODEL 3 The concept of the Universe as a Goddess who created everything, and as Mother Earth who brings forth everything living. And everything, man, woman, pebble or tree is endowed with divinity.

3. CHANGE ECONOMIC MODEL TO THE MATERNAL GIFT ECONOMY

CHANGE ECONOMY 1 Maternal Gift Economy. The mother model is the primordial structure of societal behavior.

CHANGE ECONOMY 2 Societies of balanced economic reciprocity.

4.   CREATE A SACRED WORLD FOR EVERYONE IN PEACE / OR REVIVE A “NEW SACRALIZATION OF THE WORLD”.

CREATE A SACRED WORLD 1 Matriarchal societies do not have religions based on God, who is invisible, untouchable, and incomprehensible, but omnipotent and in contrast to whom the world is devalued as “dead Matter”.

CREATE A SACRED WORLD 2 Divinity is immanent, for the whole world is regarded as divine- as feminine divine.

The Feminine Wisdom MatriCulture School offers an interactive and experiential learning journey, aimed exclusively at women, from young age to advanced age. We want to give space for intimate interactions and deep listening to the unique yet diverse experience of being and living as women in this society. Together we want to heal and transform wounds, get inspiration from matriarchal societies, indigenous cultures and ecovillages around the world, build and experience community among women in order to dream and research: How do we truly want to live on this Earth? Our aim is to offer a meaningful experience that allows women to develop holistic strategic thinking head and learn practical skills hands to face the social and environmental challenges of our time. An introduction to best practices of ecovillages around the world, as well as indigenous matriarchal cultures and the historic premises of existing equalitarian, sociocratic societies with sharing maternal gift economies and sacred cultures offer a precious mindset and inspiration for women’s future actions.

By bringing together experience in ecovillage design, matriarchal societies, feminine wisdom, activism, community building and healing circles, we created a new format of EDE – responding to the worldwide need of mutual maternal values support and empowerment.

VISION STATEMENT

FOR A SUSTAINABLE EARTH

For millennia people have lived in communities close to nature. Many of these communities, or "ecovillages," exist to this day and we seek to support their struggle for survival. In those parts of the world where an indigenous base has been destroyed, ecovillages are now being created intentionally so that people can live again in communities that are spiritually connected to the earth in a way that ensures the well being of all life forms into the indefinite future.

ECOVILLAGES

The following dimensions describe the ecovillages towards which we are working: COMMUNITY Ecovillages are communities in which people feel supported by and responsible to those around them. They provide a deep sense of belonging to a group. They are small enough that everyone feels empowered, seen and heard. People are then able to participate in making decisions that affect their own lives and that of the community on a transparent basis.

ECOLOGY

Ecovillages allow people to experience their spiritual connection to the living earth. People enjoy daily interaction with the soil, water, wind, plants and animals. They provide for their daily needs-food, clothing, shelter-while respecting the cycles of nature.

SPIRITUALITY

Ecovillages embody a sense of unity with the natural world. They foster recognition of human life and the earth itself as part of the larger cosmos.

COMMUNITY means --being committed to living in a community- whether rural or more urban based- that is naturally limited in size by a human capacity to recognize and relate to others --sharing common resources and emphasizing mutual aid --emphasizing holistic health practices and preventative medicine --providing meaningful work and material sustenance to all its members --integrating marginal groups (women, children, the aged, the weak, the handicapped ) --promoting unending education --encouraging unity through diversity and respect for minorities --fostering cultural expression

ECOLOGY means --growing as much food as possible and supporting organic food production in the community bio-region --creating homes out of locally adapted materials 9 --using village-based integrated renewable energy systems --protecting bio-diversity --fostering ecological business principles --assessing the life cycle of all products used in the ecovillage from a social and spiritual as well as an ecological point of view --preserving clean soil, water and air through proper energy and waste management --protecting nature and safeguarding wilderness areas

SPIRITUALITY means --respecting that spirituality manifests in many ways in different cultures and different places --fostering a sense of joy and belonging through rituals and celebrations --emphasizing creativity and the arts as an expression of unity and interrelationship to our universe --providing for the development of the inner self

Our shared vision

The process of formulating the common vision continues. Communicating by e-mail during the winter of 1996 Declan Kennedy, Albert Bates and Linda Joseph came up with the 14 affirmations that were brought in the summer 1996 special issue of In Communities Magazine, journal of co-operative living.

1. Humanity can live well on this Earth through the process of supporting
individual self-realization and co-operative interdependence.

2. We recognize that to restore, sustain and protect the health and
integrity of the environment, we begin by changing our attitudes, actions, and
lifestyle, individually and in groups.

3. We strive towards a life of honest, fulfilling work; caring and
fruitful social interaction; and simplicity of living coupled with abundance.

4. We support the movement toward locally self-reliant ecological
communities and neighborhoods that are sustainable socially,
environmentally, economically , and spiritually.

5. We educate in ways that honor and empower the whole person and
individual actualization- physically, emotionally, mentally, and
spiritually.

6. We educate in ways that promote successful co-operative efforts by
valuing diversity, and by developing effective communication and
community-building skills.

7. We recognize our dependence on the thriving of diversity and work to
ensure the survival of all species and cultures.

8. We work to safeguard human rights, and toward the achievement of
equality and social justice.

9. We embrace methods of land-use planning and development that honor and
protect the health of natural eco-systems, such as permaculture, natural
building, and preservation of wildlife habitat

10. We promote the research and use of non-toxic substances and methods in
agriculture and industry, on the small scale, individually and locally; and the
large scale, corporate levels and community-wide.

11. We resolve conflict by speaking truthfully and with kindness, seeking
resolution by peaceful means, at earliest time, with the appropriate people, and
seek mediation when it is needed.

12. We support citizen diplomacy.

13. We work towards the establishment of free and responsible media, and
expanding opportunities for exchange.

14. We believe the potential of humankind to make the vision of
sustainability a reality, and to apply our creativity so that we and the Earth not
only survive, but flourish and thrive.

OUR PATH

ORIGINS

It all started when I became an activist in Extinction Rebellion. Then I discovered that I could combine activism to spirituality and politics. At Schumacher College, I designed my dream. From the time, I started reading books like the Chalice and the Blade or When god was a woman, at Schumacher College my life interconnected with the energy of the Universe. The Goddess was calling and the facilitation exercises like Dragon Dreaming, journaling and painting my dreams channeled and created the reality.

With The Work that Reconnects, My Eco-sophy was delineated. With Gaia Education, I had a structure to work with Gaia Education With the discovery of Modern Matriarchal Studies, I started to interconnect all the Stories and then more stories came toward me: Permaculture, Transition Town, Maternal Gift Economy, Channeling Goddesses, Matriarchal Mystery Festivals and more will come.
In 2024 Feminine Wisdom MatriCulture School opened her door to women.

Our demands for a Matriarchal World to become true

We have a shared vision of change:
Creating a MATRIARCHAL world that is fit for WOMEN, CHILDREN AND EVERYONE for generations to come.

We set our mission on what is necessary creating matriarchal islands of sanity around the world.

We choose Matriarchy as our political aim versus Patriarchy.

We practice consensus, of utmost importance for a truly egalitarian society. Matters are decided upon by women and men in the clan house.

We demand a mother-centered society based on maternal values where grandmothers are heard. A society  based on needs not on power. Motherhood - which originates as a biological fact - is transformed into a cultural model.

We create New Affinity Communities formed based on a spiritual-philosophical relationship between the members. Their members are “siblings by choice” and create a “symbolic clan”. The small clan units of these symbolic matri-clans are the true decision makers bringing balance between the genders.

We need a regenerative culture based on mutual care and love: creating a Matriarchal Culture, which is sacred, healthy, resilient and adaptable in accordance to life on earth and the cyclicity of Mother Nature’s rhythms.

We openly challenge ourselves and our toxic system: leaving our comfort zones to take action for change and destroy the biases that the patriarchal system has created in all of us.

We value reflecting and learning: Following the regenerative design of Mother Nature, Nature’s patterns of Regeneration and all the Cycles of Life.

We accept everyone and every part of everyone: working actively to create safer and more accessible spaces. Women are the mainstays of these spaces. Children are praised as the vital part for the future of humanity. Men are totally respected and integrated but to do so they practice a different set of values based on mutual care and love. All other living and nonliving species are welcomed in the same way.

We actively mitigate power: breaking down hierarchies of power for more equitable participation.

We avoid blaming and shaming: we live in a toxic system, but no one individual is to blame.

We are a nonviolent network and we believe in peace.

We are based on autonomy and decentralization: we collectively create the structures we need to challenge patriarchal structures.

“The path to an egalitarian society has to combine matriarchal spirituality with politics,

and with economy to create another kind of society”

OUR PATH
